That was then... This is now!

So, the iPad doesn't seem to like the blogger Compose panel, just as well I do HTML, right?

...

Scratch that, it's a pain to do the paragraph tags.. I'll update this post when I've found me a better editing tool!

...

Ok, so trying out the BlogPress app. Given that blogging apps that work with blogger are few and far between (this is the only one >_<) I will have to make do. Enough about the nuts and bolts of posting! There are lots of things going on with craft and pets and life, so here are the highlights.

ANIMALS

Fish

No more Siamese fighting fish - they seem to be too sensitive and fragile. There are now 14 neon tetras and 4 bristle nose catfish, and they are living at Nick's, in a nice big tank, with bubbles and lots of attention :)

Dogs

Pepper now has a BFF - Little Spot!

He is a really sweet mini foxie x something, rescued from Monika's Doggie Rescue. In the early days he wanted to explore his neighborhood, and we had some escapes until we reinforced the back courtyard. One of these escapes was really bad for Pepper, as she got hit by a vehicle while they were out :(

Thankfully, the groundskeeper of a nearby school took her to the vet, and she is all better now, and in some ways better than before - she seems to have realized that life is too short to be scared of cuddles and kisses, and the rattling her brains took seemed to knock some more smarts into this tiny doglet.

CRAFT

After having a crafty hiatus, I'm back into the knitting! Recent projects (which really need to be documented properly!) are:

Nick's "Stargate" Chevron Scarf

This is a long scarf with single eyelet lace chevrons that meet in the middle to form an X. Knitted from a grey woolen yarn with white heathering and slubs, which I reclaimed from a jumper that Jenna was going to donate to charity.

Ribbed for My Pleasure Socks

These are wonderful! They were knitted using the heavyweight Knitters Without Borders from Blue Moon Fiber Arts which was a birthday present. The absolute perfect bedsock - they're warm, have enough room at the cuff to tuck pyjama pants into, and don't come off by themselves!

Jenna's "Edinburgh Branches" Scarf

This WIP is using the Branching Out pattern from Knitty, and the black merino silk Fyberspates Scrumptious yarn which she brought back from Edinburgh in 2009. I think I was just starting on something with this yarn when I stopped posting, and got completely disheartened by Pepper deciding to play kitty cat with the nicely wound centrepull ball of this yarn and making the mother of all knots >_<

IDEAS

I have another skein of the Fyberspates Scrumptious merino silk, in purple (one of my Edinburgh pressies from Jenn), but Pepper also got to that one after I would the centrepull ball (she must hasve smelt me on it or something!), and I don't have the third season of True Blood to help me face the untangling process yet. Spaghetti anyone?

I've got 2 balls of this gorgeous lavender Stella bamboo yarn that I've got no idea what to do with, but it's soo smooth and silky and purdy, I couldn't resist grabbing the last two balls from the bargain bin at my LYS!

There's also the skein of Smashed Blackberries (somewhat ironic, posting from an iDevice, no?) from Yummee Yarn, which I'm going to knit a pair of socks with. I got it in St Louis when I was over there with CKC for the International Convention.

Speaking of singing, I resigned from chorus this week, as the commitment is too much for me at the moment. Maybe if future I'll be up to the challenge again, and be able to devote the time and attention it deserves. I've been thinking about picking up an open adult tap class in Hornsby on a Wednesday night, but will leave some vacuum in my life for the moment, to recover from the overload.

So update/braindump/catchup completed (for now) - will try to be a bit more active in future!

Doglicious!

In sad news, Mushu-san died a month after we welcomed him into the family. Temperature fluctuations due to the tank positioning made him sick with something fungal, and then over-medication finished him off. Tis time for a fishless nitrogen cycle, so I get the hang of aquarium keeping, without the pain of another fish dying.

In other news, Pepper is doing very well, and is earning her keep as a knitwear model:

She also loves being a hotdog in the couch bun:

And after all that posing, it's time for a nap with Nick:

Puppy!

If you thought this little cutie was a smooth coated Border Collie Puppy, you'd be forgiven :)

Pepper is a Jack Russell x Pomeranian (AKA Jackeranian!), is 7 months old, and will be arriving on November 5th! An early Christmas present for Jenna and I, to keep us company and generally make chaos!

More photos of cuteness when Pepper arrives!

RIP Jabberwocky Draco-san, Welcome Jabberwocky Mushu-san

After a battle with Ich, Jabberwocky Draco-san went to fishy heaven on the 14th October 2008. He was buried under one of my pot plants.

That afternoon, Nick asked for my house keys and said he was leaving work early to drop something over at my place. I slogged through the rest of the day, trudged home, and arrived to a new 5 gallon tank with filter, 3 pretty plants, blue and silver gravel, an aquarium thermometer, and a new fishy!

This new fish is Jabberwocky Mushu-san.

In keeping with Asian tradition of surname first, this slightly greener, pointier nosed Betta keeps his predecessor's family name. His bottom fin has a nice red streak in it, and he has the same almost transparant side fins. He also has silver spots on his gills, and a silver bib.

He's quite an inquisitive little guy, and is sitting next to me in his bag watching me type, while we wait for the tank to get to a good temperature. Apparantly, he ate the pellet that was in his travel bag, so I finally have a fish to feed the pellets to!

Introducing Jabberwocky!

I should really go to bed.

However, must introduce the newest member of the family (not his mugshot - need to get my camera and decent light to show off his prettiness properly. This picture from http://watershed3.tripod.com/types.html has similar colouring though)

Jabberwocky Draco-san is my early birthday present Betta Splendens from my grandfather Ric. He (Jabberwocky, not Ric) is lavender(blue/red) and doesn't like the Betta pellets from the pet shop my sister Jessica works at . He swims up to the top of the tank where I've dropped the pellet, blows a bubble at me, then swims back down with a disapproving flick of his flamboyant fins.

Jess also got a yellow and black Betta whom she has dubbed Tigger - who also despises the pellets. Freeze-dried bloodworms are the next dish on the menu. Hopefully our fish will then actually eat something. Anorexic fusspots. Jenna says that if he doesn't eat something soon, I might have to rename him to Fisha Barton.

I am DROOLING over the Purple Dragon Shawl yarn. When I first saw the pattern, I loved it, but not the yarn it was done in. I'm waiting to hear back on the shipping damage before I splurge with my latest pay packet (which just arrived in my account tonight - yay!)

Ok. Bed now.
